For this we are eternally grateful to the Show Guardians that watch over the vendors and laugh at us.

Set up took a record 5 actually hours of work this year; that’s the very fastest it’s ever happened. A show volunteer decided to come in today, even though she was scheduled for tomorrow, and asked if we needed help.

It is not an exaggeration to say my YES resounded before she finished her question. I think she spent about 2-hours helping, and I cannot express my thanks enough.

So here are five pictures for you…. from the beginning with dumping everything into an empty 10′ x 20′ space, to the finished booth. Well, there will always be tweaking, but you get the idea.

Time to put the feet up for awhile and just zone out… the cats are holding my place on the futon.

So last night I’m running around like an idiot trying to get stuff done for the show (set up is next week) and failing miserably!

I was trying to get some pictures and Molly just insisted on being a part of the whole thing… so…. I grabbed her furry butt and we have a new picture!

BTW those earphones are attached to my new Shuffle – in Red! Apple had them for $49 – my birthday gift to me. It cranks up REAL LOUD!

Oh yeah, the Mollster is on my lap right now…. the kids really love getting involved in just about everything.

“Beginning May 30, 2007, millions of Americans will discover the importance that craftsmanship has played in the founding and future of our country with the premiere of CRAFT IN AMERICA: Memory, Landscape, Community, a three-part high-definition series on PBS.”

Episode 1 – Memory
The first in the CRAFT IN AMERICA series, Memory takes a personal tour through craft’s history in America beginning with the pioneers of the field. This episode juxtaposes the intimate stories of some of our country’s most prominent craft artists against the larger historical context of craft itself.

Episode 2 – Landscape
The second episode focuses on the relationship between the artists and their physical environment. Craft artists depend on their natural environment for both materials and inspiration. This hour looks at the processes through which natural materials become finished works of craft, and what deeper messages may be contained therein.

Episode 3 – Community
Throughout time, craft work has been a community activity. This hour focuses on the spiritual connection artists have to their communities through craft making. Some express the ideas, beliefs and desires of their community through their craft objects. Some pay homage to the community by continuing craft traditions that are in danger of being lost. Others perform their craft as a community project. The personal stories of gifted artists and passionate newcomers alike reveal the deeply held belief that craft is about more than just the making of an object – it is also about a way of life, a reason for being.
